NATIONAL SEMINAR CUM WORKSHOP ON QUALITY CONCERN IN TEACHER EDUCATION
National Seminar cum Workshop on Quality Concerns in Teacher Education was organised at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36B, Chandigarh on 27th November 2009. More than 40 teachers, educators and prospective teachers participated in the Seminar. Delegates of different colleges from Punjab, Haryana, and UT presented their papers on the themes like Integrating ICT into Teacher Education, Indicators of Quality Teacher Education, Reinventing the Paradigm of Teaching, Reflective Teaching in the Classroom and Skill Based Quality Teacher Education.
The Inaugural Session began by the lightening of Deepshikha by Dr. Amit Kauts, Principal, MGN College, Jallandhar and Dean Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Dr. Jyoti Khanna, Principal of the college in her welcome addressed that teachers are best means to bring about major revolutions and transformations in the society. Professor Shelly Walia, Director, Academic Staff College, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour for the occasion. The Technical Session was presided over by Dr. Amit Kauts who appreciated the efforts of the college for conducting such a thought provoking seminar on teacher education which is the need of hour. He stressed the stake holders should be involved in the process of evaluation for integrated results. There should be an active integration among colleges of education, schools and degree colleges to improve the standards of teaching and learning. He quoted “Quality comes from within, it is not something to be forced upon from outside”. Prof. Shelly Walia emphasized on education as a tool of transformation in the society. He questioned the position of teaching profession in today’s era. He emphasized on global knowledge for regional empowerment. He advocated the supremacy of wisdom over knowledge and imparting of knowledge through a dialogical mode rather than traditional lecture method. A workshop was conducted after the seminar in which the delegates discussed various quality enhancing measures such as skill based training, flexible curriculum, comprehensive evaluation system, stress management programs etc. which will help in imparting quality education.
