
Vigilance Awareness Week was observed from November 3rd to 9th at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36 B, Chandigarh in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum.
The week began with the administration of Vigilance Pledge to the staff and prospective teachers by Dr. Jyoti Khanna, Principal of the College. The Pledge stated “We, the Public Servants of India do hereby solemnly pledge that we shall continuously strive to bring about integrity and transparency in all spheres of our activities. We also pledge that we shall work unstintingly for eradication of corruption in all spheres of life. We shall remain vigilant and work toward the growth and reputation of our organization. Through our collective efforts, we shall bring pride to our organization and provide value based service to our countrymen. We shall do our duty consciously and act without fear or favour.”
On the concluding day, the chief guest on the occasion was Sh. M.K Sharma, Chief Manager Vigilance in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. In his address to the students he cited two reasons that breed corruption – Delays and Personal Contact. He stated e-governance as potent tool to counter corruption in the present society as it significantly brings about transparency and accountability.
During the week, Essay Writing and Quiz Competitions on themes like ‘Self Vigilance to eradicate Corruption in Public Life’, ‘Delay Breeds Corruption’ and ‘Information Technology is a tool to Curb Corruption or a Facilitator for White Collar Crime’.

The function concluded with prize distribution to respective winners. Dr. Jyoti Khanna,Principal thanked the Chief Guest, the NSS Program Officers, members of faculty and the students for making the function a success.
