NSS units of Dev Samaj College of Education organized an Eye Donation Awareness Camp on 30th August, 2011. Programme Officer Dr . Richa Chhibbar welcomed the Chief Guest , Dr. S.K Arya, Professor Govt Medical College and Hospital Sec 32, Chandigarh and President Chandigarh Ophthalmology Society and Dr. Nishant Gupta, Senior Resident , PGI, Chandigarh .
Dr. S.K Arya, in an interactive session with the prospective teachers oriented them about eye donation and created awareness about the misconceptions of students regarding eye donation. He also enlightened the students about the causes of Corneal Blindness and said that we face an acute shortage of donors and demand exceeds the supply. He highlighted the importance of Eye Donation and inspired students to come forward and join them for the noble campaign “Fight for Sight “. Dr Nishant Gupta in his address to the students explained the procedure to approach the eye bank for donating the deceased’s eyes after death and emphasized that , ”Let Eye Donation Be Your Family Tradition”
The students presented a skit on the same theme and also presented their views through speech and poems. Various competitions like slogan writing and poster making were also held to commemorate the occasion.
Dr. Jyoti Khanna said that The Eye Donation Awareness Camp is a regular feature of the college held to motivate the students and inspire them to spread awareness about the importance of eye donation. Dr. Anjani Khanna, Medical Social Workers S. Amarjeet Singh, S. Amritpal Singh and Mr. Raghvindra were also present on the occasion.
